Most people think of golf as a more or less interesting pastime but not many realize that it can also be a very effective form of exercise. While playing an average round of 18 holes, you can walk up to 6 miles and burn as much as 1000 calories.

Staying fit

It’s estimated that an adult person needs about 150 minutes of physical activity a week to stay in good health. So if the more intense sports are not really your thing, playing golf can be a very good way to stay fit. Between carrying your equipment, swinging a golf club and walking through the hilly area of a golf course, one game a week will provide a sufficient workout for your muscles.

An outdoor sport

Golf courses spread over big areas of land, so in order to play around, you have to spend a significant amount of time outdoors. Vitamin D deficiency is a growing problem among the population since people no longer spend a sufficient amount of time outside. This can lead to many health consequences as autoimmune diseases, cancer, and depression. That’s why playing golf for a few hours can not only be beneficial for your physical condition but also for your mental state.

Starting can be tough but don’t let yourself feel intimidated by the more experienced players. Everyone was a beginner once and sport is supposed to be a fun activity, so don’t stress yourself out unnecessarily. Don’t be afraid to ask for advice when you feel lost. If you don’t know what you’ll need at the beginning, try looking for the best golf clubs for beginners and other necessary equipment adequate to your level. In order to get used to the game, it may be a good idea to start on a practice range instead of going straight to the golf course.
